New batteries...

I've seen some genuine toyota batteries for sale, don't need any at the moment but thought it might be an idea to get a pair ready for the future...

Roughly how long will new batteries stay at peak condition if they are kept in storage ?

Does it matter what temp they are stored ... i.e. indoors at room temperature or in the shed at colder temp.
