  • New Stereo - Rear Speakers - will this work ok?

    Hi

Got my 1994 3.0 TD Surf last week. I got a new stereo to replace the original one that only gets Radio2...

However I know that there is any issue with the rear speakers due to the amp that they use. One solution that was put to me was that the rear speakers would have to be re-wired to be able to connect to my new stereo. however I pre-amp outs on my new stereo which I have now been told should work when connected up to the wires that presently go from the stereo to the amp.

My Q is, does anyone know if this will work? (I know that I will need to adapt the amp cables to plug into the phono cables on the back of the stereo but thats easy enough to do).

    Thanks

PS - am amazed that I am getting the same mpg as my old Pajero - avg 27mpg...

just connect speaker wires to amp as was in original setup... it's a different setup than if using RCA output to aftermarket amp

      Do what dabigman says.

Those built in amps are quite capable little beasties.

Use your RCA's to power another amp and a sub!!

so I should simply have to connect the 4 wires that went from the amp to the old stereo to the rear speaker cables of the new stereo? (I was told that this would not work since it them goes through another amp, but that guy might have been talking through his xxxx.

The quickest, easiest and safest way to do it is to purchase an autoleads convertor plug.

Then you plug the outpts of your new radio into it, then the convertor into your exsisting wiring loom.

Thats provided the original plugs havent been cut off of course!!

Failing that, you are correct. Just wire up the rear outputs to the exsisting rear wires.

Just a thought, are you aware of the additional set of tweeters above the back window?

          My apologies if you are.
