  • Just CUT IT OUT!!!

Can anyone help with this one???

In the last couple of weeks, my surf's developed a very annoying habit of cutting out on me everytime I go over a bump in the road, especially if I'm turning a corner at the same time.

It just cuts out completely, everything goes off, lights, engine radio, everything but only for about 0.5 seconds. Then while cars free wheeling with engine off, I can put it in neutral and then she start's straight away.

I've checked all battery terminals, and all seem's well. What could it be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sam

Have you got one battery or two? If one, it's possibly a bad main earth connection.

There are some large fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay. One of those might have a crack in the link or a bad connection.

Could it be an over sensitive impact switch? Had this on a Volvo once. Switch replaced and problem solved. Mind you in my case if the doors were locked they would all unlock every time it operated.

did you get it sorted? Toyota said they found a broken indicator wire (dunno whether that would make a diff?) weird too seeinga s both indicators were fine?

Nope, still not sorted, all the fuses seem fine, I'm wondering if if its the ignition live wire, as when it does it, all the dashboard lights stay on, but the stereo cuts out. The headlights also go dim. any clues?

How about a bad earth connection from the battery to the car or a loose battery terminal. or a loose engine earth strap. Or a bad main relay - either loose in it's holder or with a broken contact

                    Cheers

                      cut off solenoid

Have you checked the fuel cut solenoid connection on the back of the inection pump, youll have to remove the air filter to get a good look

!!!!!! computers, spent ages writing a response and it crashes......................t ry again.

I think it is something to do with the 50A Main fuse link in the engine bay fusebox. If there is another one in there then swap it and see if the problem moves.

                        My reasoning:

The lights aren't fed from this fuse.
The charge circuit is so the lights will dim because they are only on the batteries, actually the engine is stopped so it's not gonna be charging it!
The fuel cut-off solenoid is also fed from this circuit.
                        So's the radio.

If it isn't in the fuse box then it could be the wiring from it to the ignition switch, the ignition switch itself or the wiring to the fusebox in the kick panel in the drivers side footwell.
