4wd light test procedure

hi folks, i just need to check if i'm doing the right thing here,
i've got no 4wd light but i definitely have 4wd,

so to test the dash bulb can i take the plug off the sensor and bridge the two contacts on the cable -then switch the ingition on and then when i press the 4wd button the light should come on??

just need to check before i start wasting my time if this isnt gonna work

Yes, if you do this to the switch on front of front diff. If light comes on test the switch. If not, the bulb may be blown, or there's a wiring problem to it.

on subject of faulty 4wd switching, does anyone know of a good man for fettling surfs. in the northeast (Durham) ?
