    Help!!!
I cannot stand it any longer. I finally decided to find out why the rear speakers in my 3 L td surf (94) are not working. After finally getting to the speaker I found the speaker lead was looped up somewhere behind the rear door. Can anyone tell me where it should be connected? I did not remove all of the plastic cover but the cable did seem to disappear in the direction of the rear door. As the front speakers are slowly loosing performance I could do with getting the rear ones working.
    Many thanks
    Kind regards,
    Tim

Do you still have the origional toyota sterio system? My surf has 4 channels with 2 sets of rca jacks (one for the front & one for the rear). When I got my surf the fronts were not working as the previous owner had replaced the streio unit with a two channel system and failed to connect the fronts.

      Rear speakers

It turned out that the cables had been left there for some unknown reason. When I reconnected the amps in the rear the two main speakers worked. The two rear tweeters that some members seem two have are absent in mine but I am working on this. As for the stereo I have just installed a double din sony unit - kickin.

          speakers

The front ones are indeed 10cm (4") but the rear ones are 5".
I upgraded mine to run of the mill Blaupunt but there are loads out there. The general opinion is to keep the standard size with the factory enclosures and fit a base bin. I must admit the speakers seem to handle most things but I am planning to fit a base bin. Hope this helps.

              Rear speakers

              Hi Mark,
Mine are missing too! There should be two rear speakers (and amplifiers) located in the "boot" space. There should also be two tweeters in the interior light (rear) moulding. I don't know what size but they must be small (2-2.5"). they connect into a connector mounted on the near side near the left hand tweeter. I have taken the panel out and must get round to fitting some. I have tested the feeds and they do work.
They must be an optional extra.
              Hope this helps.

Toyota must have had a total redesign for the 3rd Gen's. Mine is very different from all the descriptions i've read on the forum.

Mine has six speakers - 2 x tweeters mounted near the wing mirrors on the front doors, 2 x 10cms at the base of the front doors and two more at the same place on the passenger doors.
There are no grilles or spaces anywhere in the boot area for speakers.

When i replaced the old jap pioneer cassette headunit with a JVC one this weekend, i was surprised at how reasonable they sound for their size. A bit boomy but certainly adequate for now.
