  • Only had it 2 days and now ive managed to break it!

Hey all. Bought my 4runner at the weekend (N reg) and i cant get the rear window back up! The 'Back Door' light is illuminated on the dash, despite it being closed. If i turn the key on the tailgate left, it beeps, sort of like an alarm clock.

Sorry if its a real newbie question, ive tried searching!

turning the key to the right worked earlier to bring the window down when i opened the boot. but now it wont go back up.
the boot feels shut. but the back door light is still on!

sounds like the tailgate locks aren't fully closed try shutting it a bit firmer but be carefull of the glass it's not too great at taking a knock

My door light goes out when i lock it,
As for the window mine goes back up with a well positioned tap just above the lock, sometimes the tap turns into a full blown thump but it does get it back up, till i can be bothered to strip it all down anyway
My brakes dont work, so i made the horn louder.

If it's beeping, as was said before, the tailgate latches aren't latched properly or one of the switches is gubbed.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

              add to

re open the tailgate and give it a a good push to close it there is lock out switchs on the 2 tailgate locks if dash lamp is on tailgate locks are not shut properly and you will get the beeps it must have been closed before or it would not have opened either

ok so i think im on the right track to solving it. I discovered that the wipers had stopped working too. So i replaced the fuse and it all works fine, including the rear window! But after a couple of days driving it, it happened again. Replaced the fuse and it works.
I am a total noob with this sort of thing so how would i find out what is causing the fuse to blow? (normally i would get my dad to look at it but hes away for a few days)

what was you doing when the fuse blew
more than likely i will be the back window if it's slow to go up is so buy some silicone spray from car shop lower the window and squirt the spray into the window Channel then wind the window up and down a few times the give another squirt and do it again do all the windows makes a big differance

its been working fine now for a couple of weeks no issues. Except the BACK DOOR light has been constantly on, but very dim everytime.

now typically, when it starts raining today. i go to grab something out of the boot and bam it wont go up. Beeping when i turn the key and beeping when i press the switch inside. BACK DOOR light now fully illuminated.

Now last time it happened, the front wipers stopped working too so id replace the fuse and it was fine. But now the fuses and wipers are fine :S

                    This has me really stumped

right, after having a fiddle round of the wires i found these wires werent even attached!

as you can (hopefully) see. it comes off the main lot of wires coming into the tailgate from the truck.

Any idea where these are supposed to go to? pictures would be greatly appreciated as im totally stumped!

wires either go to rear window heater or the near/side tailgate switch try shutting tailgate and with ign on touch the wires and see if the rear door lamp goes out but make sure the heated rear window switch is turned off but it looks more like heated window wires al you have is a break in the wire normally under the bottom left of tailgate all the wire do into the car just age youneed to cut and join all the wires with new wire must be soldered and srink wrapped

Just a thought but are you making sure the rear window wiper arm is properly parked in the holder above the door. If it's not fully parked it can stop the window going back up.

also try and make sure the button for locking the tailgate is pushed down, i only noticed a few days ago that if you leave the tailgate unlocked as soon as you turn the ignition on the back door light comes on push the lock down and light went out, so in theory both the tailgate catches and door lock are both set to put the light on i suppose the wires that are broke could also be something for the lock as well

ok bad news. After getting an 'expert' to look at it. Turns out the motor has gone The loose wires appear to be the rear window demister which explains why it has never worked.

So now i am on the lookout for a cheap motor. Should i or shouldnt i go for this one?
