intermittent electric windows

hello fellow surf owners
Can anyone help i have an intermittent fault with my electric windows,sometimes when i go out the windows dont work theres nothing at all then i could stop at garage and when i start up again the windows work fine.i am not sure where to start with this one although i have noticed that the drivers door has to be shut for the windows to work is this normal do all surf windows only work with door shut because if not i am suspecting a broken wire to drivers door switch panel,i have searched previous threads but no one has had this problem so i thought i would ask the experts on here for advice.

The door wiring harness has broken wires in it. You need to check and re-wire it.
