  • 3rd gen Dashboard Warning lights

    Hi there,

Be grateful for any advice/guidance please.

    The situation
Got the new surf 3rd gen KZN185 a couple of weeks ago and had some jobs to do. So, started on them this morning, did the front pads, fitted new tailpipe and then started looking around under the bonnet. I pulled out and replaced all of the fuses to check and reseat them, then noticed that the battery connector on the positive (red) cable was only half on the terminal of the battery. I loosened off the connector and refitted it, unfortunately in the process of refitting I shorted it with the spanned.

    The problem
I now have the brake warning light, the drain fuel filter, timing belt and the battery light staying on after the engine is started, all other warning lights extinguish as usual.

    What I've checked so far
I've put a meter across the battery with everything off and it reads 12.7 volts
I've started her up and at tickover the battery voltage rises to 14.7 volts

    Question
I've looked through the threads and the general concensus is that warning lights coming on indicate an aletrnator problem, but at the battery voltage increases with running does this rule that out, or am I missing something?

    Cheers

    I've just awarded myself

[B]THE NUMPTY OF THE DAY AWARD [/B

I finished writing the thread and thought, I'll just go and check those fuses again and found I put the 7.5 amp fuse back in the wrong slot. ]

    Must try harder next time.

    Cheers

    Tony
