    Hi this is the first time i have asked for help and now it`s not for my surf
    it`s for my grandaughters renault clio she has her driving test in 2 week`s
    just found out that the heated rear windscreen not working checked for
    brack in wire seem`s ok checked fuse .I took the relay to main
    dealer to get it checked out but thay said that it cannot be checked
    and i would have to by a new one cost of £17 plus vat could anyone tell me if there is a way that i can check it out

    That link above has various diagnostic information for download. Just find whatever relates to checking relays and suchlike.

    On a relay you have a coil and at least one set of contacts. The coil is powered and causes the contact(s) to toggle. Nothing more.


    *If* it is faulty, either the coil is shagged or the contacts have:

    1) Welded shut.
    2) Carbonised or pitted and hence make poor or no contact.

      Any auto electrician should be able to test a relay easily. You could even do it yourself if you have a multimeter.

      Do you have a pic of relay and has it got the circuit diagram on it?
