  • Weird Electrical Problem?

    Hi All

I experienced a weird electrical fault with my 3rd Gen today...

I have only had it since Saturday and everything has been spot on although I have noticed that a couple of small things weren't working eg clock and interia lights (unless you tap it!)

Went out and when I got back in and turned the ignition all the dash lights came on as normal (door open and buzzing) but as soon as I went to start there was a click and everything went dead - Nothing. Took key out and tried again and nothing at all - no lights on dash even. Checked battery and it has plenty of juice (positive is not very tight on terminal?) - checked all fuses and seemed OK, but still nothing.

A few minutes later just thought I'd try it again (like you do) and it started no problem, but we had not done anything else and now the clock works!!!

    Any ideas peeps?

    Cheers

        Top Man, Cheers!!!

It's actually as tight as it can be, but still loose - I reckon it's wrong size for terminal so will replace immediately!!

        Thanks again!!

          The ex-popstar is right.

The reason is as follows :- When you turn the key to ign position, you get all the lights and everything, but you aren't drawing much current, so the voltage drop across the poor connection isn't much and everything seems normal. When you try to start the truck, the current draw is massive initially, which causes the volts drop at the terminal to be big also. Thats why your lights go out

Ohms law explains it all, but coles law is tastier.

I'm quite fond of the Combined Gas Laws. But I can't think of a link to the OP's question, so I really shouldn't mention them.
