  • Audio Wiring. Again!

    Hello Peeps,

Sorry to bring up the issue of audio wiring again but, having searched everywhere on here and elsewhere,I just can't find the answers I need.
    Please bare with with me....

FYI. My surf is 2nd gen ('94) 3.0lt ssrx. It has the standard 4 speaker system, 2 front, 2 in rear side panels. There are no speakers in the doors obviously or roof.

The audio wiring has been hacked & therefore no connector blocks, just 14 wires hanging in fresh air so to speak. Bearing in mind that I'm colour percepted to red & green, here is the list of wires, the first 5 being I believe of higher ampage i.e. thicker, than the remaining 9.

    1. Blue/Yellow line (Permanent 12v)
    2. Yellow
    3.Red
    4. Black
    5. White

    6.Purple (-LF Speaker?)
    7. Pink (+LF Speaker?)
    8. Light Green (+RF Speaker?)
    9. Blue (-RF Speaker?)
    10. Black/Red Line
    11. Pink/Blue Line (might be purple line)
    12. Dark Green
    13. Grey (ign 12v)
    14. Brown (Ground)

(All wires have additional bands of different colours of course.)

So Gentlemen....the question is....can you Gurus out there, correct my thoughts on what some of the wires are for & fill in all the blanks as to which wire does what?

I cannot find this info anywhere but, if it is available as above, could you point me in the right direction please?

    Thank you.

    Tony

      Ha-Harrrrr

I did mine the other day i was chasing the cabling around for hours because some how i had managed to blow three fuses in the process and after removing the cabling for my Screen that someone had spliced in (that I did not need to) i finally thought that there had to be another fuse for the cabin.

If you find after making all the connections good that nothing comes on and the interior lights do not come on then i would advise looking under the bonnet and looking for the fuse that says Dome (Great description dont you think) it took me 4 hours to re-wire the back of the set to find out that something soooooo silly cause so much damn time to figure out.

If you follow the guide it works a treat....
      Always room for more power!!!!

Bit slow answering this but things happen...

I found this during my search Mudsurfer but, it the wiring colours don't marry up with my wiring. This is why I'm at a loss.
        Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

        Regards Tony

Is it the connector in the centre console which has been snipped off?

            Hi MattF,

The two blue blocks from the original wiring loom which connect into the back of the audio unit have been snipped.
If I could get hold of another two of these blocks with a bit of the original wires still attached, I should then be able to sort it out.

            Regards
            Tony

P.M Richard, (Stormforce). I'd be very surpised if he can't help you out with that.

Thanks MattF & hello again Richard,
You seem to come to my rescue over & over!

I have all wiring & connector blocks from audio unit to connect into the surf wiring loom. It's just the 2 connector blocks, I believe they are blue, that have been chopped off the loom itself. All I found was a bunch of bare wires hanging around! God preserve us from these muppets!

Through the use of a multimeter, a couple of blown fuses & a bit of stripping, I've worked out a few of the wires, but no wiring diagram I have found is correct.
I also think I may have knocked out a relay and/or the 'brown box'!
                  Deep joy!

Please let me know asap what you can do to help.
                  Thank you again.
                  Tony

                      Hi BigBobE,

                      Yes, you are exactly right.
I'm no audio superbod but don't normally have such trouble.
With 14 wires to choose from however, & either poor or conflicting wiring diagrams to make "fitting this unit a simple & straightforward task!", I'm beginning to doubt my sanity.

Any & all help would be soooo....appreciated.

                      Regards
                      Tony

k, first off halfrauds do a set of iso plugs that go into stereo, so thats your first buy, secondly, can you take a photo of your jmuble of wires and mail it to me at robertjenglish@hotmail.co.uk if you have spread cable enough i will label em 1 to 14 and where they go..... you'll also need about 14 blue barrel crimps and a crimper also available from them.....
