  • New Stereo / DAB Aerial advice please!

    Hi

I have replaced the radio in my surf with a JVC-BT11 which gives me the ability to add a DAB receiver. I have bought the DAB receiver (JVC DB1000) but I am now struggling to decide the best way forward regarding an aerial.

I have been told the best aerial to get is an external one so I have narrowed it down to the JVC HAL-2 (DAB/FM/AM) or JVC HAL-3 (DAB only). My question is should I go for the HAL-2 and disconnect the electrical aerial or just go for the HAL-3? Does anyone have any advice they can offer please?

Alos if I do go for the HAL-2 and disconnect the exisiting electrical aerial how do I do this? I do have concerns about the existing aerial anyway as everytime I connect the stereo faceplate it comes up even if I don't turn the radio on, so I am wondering if disconnecting it totally could be the best option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Personally, I'd remove the original aerial totally.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Ok, sounds like an option. How would I do that and would you put the HAL-2 in its place?

      Thanks

No, the Hal-2 is a roof mount. Stick a blank or something in the hole for the original.

          Ok thanks.

Does anyone else have any comments regarding the aerials. Anyone got one or used one?

          Thanks

I haven't used either aerial, but I can understand what you're going through..

I love radio but have never found any decent info on the web about aerials. Even asked the 'experts' at all the car audio sites but there is no info...

I'd love to fit a 'perfect' aerial but I can't even find what the specs on that should be, let alone anyone who sells it..

            Sorry!
            Rob.

edit - before the radio hams on here kick off, I don't mean some 30 foot pole , just something that will do 'very well' compared to a bee sting, and can be as big as a cb aerial...

maybe? They have a 45 day buy and try.

A 6 element periodic would be best, but I've never seen one designed for a car before.
I work for Maplin I'll ask some of our 'am customers if they know.
Knowing them it'll be a long answer though oO

I have a 6inch magmount for my DAB and it works great.

Only for some of the customers.

For the sales staff it could mean loosing your job.

I'll pass - it must be a Scottish thing. Been to loads of Maplins down here and none of the staff stank. Most didn't have a clue about anything I asked them but none had body odour.

I don't think any of them are Scottish, but they are all clueless.
