  • Please Help - ECU FUBAR

    Hi,
My Surf is a much beloved '93 3.0 Turbo Diesel, and it's currently in a coma.

After fixing a broken fan belt, my local maccie damaged the ECU by either; jump starting with an oversized battery, or re-connecting the newly charged batteries the wrong way, or both.

Either way, the ECU was burnt (at least one diode blown) causing a distinct lack of interest from my glow plugs. A local electronics whizz has repaired the ECU as far as possible, and we now seem to have life from the glow plugs. But still no starting.

Ideally, I'd like to track down a diagram, or even a photo, of a similar ECU, so that the tame 'tronics guy can be sure he's got the circuits etc in the right place. Otherwise, I guess I need to find a replacement ECU.

Above all, I need help! (I'm in Port Alfred, South Africa.)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Blur

There's a good chance you'll fail in trying to repair the E.C.U. They're usually multi-layer boards, and very few engineers can work successfully on those.

May be worth asking on here:

if someone more 'local' to you may be able to help or may have a spare unit for sale.
