o/d light & speedo

hi all
got a problem with my J reg ssrx 2.5 auto surf
the o/d light keeps flashing on & off all the time, and the speedo as stoped working they both went at the same time, dont know weather they are related, so far I have cheked the belts ,fuses,oltenator , batterys, all are ok dont know what to do next can anyone help

they are related, sort the speedo and the light will stop flashing, it's flashing to tell you the speedo ain't working.

My guess is broken wire or faulty sensor on one of the speed sensors in the side of the gearbox. One sends signal to the ECU and one to the speedo i believe, but not sure which way round they are. IIRC they're both visible on the passenger side of the gearbox.

Do a diagnostics check (You'll find out all about it if you use the search facility) it'll either be code 42 or 61.
