  • Modifying the rear window...........

    ....wiring!
As we all know, up-grading the stock wiring for the headlights with heavier wires makes them brighter, but has anyone tried doing the same with the rear window motor? I'm thinking thicker wiring might give the motor a bit more oomph to raise and lower the glass faster.

    Thoughts????

Sound reasoning there Vince, I've been thinking along the same lines myself. Need to re-wire the HRW anyway, be as well doing the lot?

That said, the relays will end up being the weak point, or are you thinking about a full rewire?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Yeah a complete re-wire with new 30a relays.
I've binned my rear wash/wipe assembly so no need for that little box of tricks behind the side panel.

surely it would only ever be as good as the motor itself, which is the weak point,to me it seems giving the motor more power will just make it wear quicker

          Rear window......

......having just last month completely rebuilt the tail gate. I found the only weekness on mine was as we all know was the steel disc/ plate on the motor with the dee hole through it to locate the drive gear. This I replaced with a plate which was half a millimetre thicker and put three small counter sunk screws and nuts in the assembley (this info can found on previous threads) .I replaced the sliders, mechanism, wiring, locks ,seals(which where a pain). Everything took a steady 4 hours with only help for lifting door carcas and glass (I now have a window Spare). The point Iam making is a possible complete overhaul rather an upgrade to the electrics. My window is now quiet and a lot quicker. Hope this helps. Happy new year all.

Having problems again with the rear window on 4runner

I put the back passenger door window motor in last year, that helped.
then it started going slow and stopping again the other week, so swapped the front passenger motor in, that was much better, now thats going slow

cleaned everything up and lubed the runners etc

i will have to try a direct feed to the motor,

this link to a relay fix doesnt seem to be live anymore:

anyone else have access to the guide to bypass the relays?
I will check a direct feed of power to motor first to see if that confirms my feeling its electical problem

Wang a battery and decent cable directly on the motor and see if it's any nippier.

Does that mean you're finally gonna be fitting those timers then?

Well I was going to spend tomorrow fiddling with the electrics, re-routing, tidying, upgrading etc but there's snow on the ground at the moment so it looks like the truck will be on duty tomorrow instead.
