dashboard lights stay lit- wont start

I needed my tailgate motor replaced and some wiring down to allow one of my rear windows to work. Drove the truck home. This morning I started it up and it ran really rough for 3 seconds and then made a sound that sounded like a bad starter (This is a Diesel by the way) and then it turned off. I then noticed all my dashboard lights were lit. My battery showed about 13. I pulled my key out and then back in and turned it to the on position and all the dashboard lights came on and about 6 seconds later the constant chime sound. I attempted to start it again and it would turn over once and sounds like it's going to start but then the bad starter sound again.


any ideas? I called the auto shop but I don't want to get screwed by them saying oh that's more billable electrial work.

An educated guess ...........Alternator's had it...............

try some of the links at the bottom of the thread and see if the symptoms match
