  • headlight bulbs

Noticed this morning that one of the headlight bulbs has gone on my 2nd Gen. Both bulbs are the original low power 'green tint' jobs that came with the car from Japan. I want to swap to higher output bulbs, and have the following questions:-

    - I've heard that it's a begger to get at the bulbs to swap them out. Any advice gratefully received.

    - Anyone recommend a good high- output replacement that won't melt my wiring loom, and do you know the spec to ask for at the counter?

    Many Thanks

    Tim.

To replace I suggest removing the batteries and the expansion tank / washer bottle (depending on the side) and work from the back.

You would be advised to get a wiring loom upgrade, it alone will make a difference.

If you want a better bulb may I suggest Osram nightbreakers

agreed, upgrade your loom. it doesnt take long and then you can put in really high powered bulbs.
and yes, to get to them you need to remove both batteries and tanks. but again, an easy job

Thanks for the feedback gents, much appreciated. Good news on accessing the bulbs, I thought it would be much harder than that.

I'll have a look at upgrading the loom for the future, but need the quick fix this weekend, so I'm legal again (and can see in the dark). Can I get away with halogens on the standard loom?

                Thanks fellas.

I fitted the standard 55w Halogens at the weekend (took about 20 minutes in total, so not a big job).

They're a big improvement over the old 'green tint' bulbs. I don't get whited out by every passing car now. I did see that Halfrauds have a range of Xenon upgrades:-

super- bright: rated about 30% higher out put than standard.
kick- ass super bright: 50% higher
Uber kick- ass superbright: 90% higher.

These were all from bulbs rated at 55w, although they were a lot more expensive (£23.00 each!).

Would a standard loom handle any (or all) of them? I might upgrade again after christmas.
