  • Side lights coming on whilst braking

Hi, i went offroading yesterday, and now when i brake my side lights are coming on... Any ideas?

Also, my towbar electrics got somewhat wet and now when i indicate i get a beeping noise as you'd get when it's got a load connected.

    Cheers.

Yeah i get the 'towbar/beeping when indicating' thing, that's not a huge problem, it's the side lights coming on when braking i don't get.
Shouldn't be affected by the towbar electrics though should it?

        Quite possibly.

The stop/tail light bulbs are a single bulb with a double filament, (usually) meaning they have two 12v connections on them. Water may have bridged these two 12v supplies inside the towbar socket.
Just open the flap and give the socket a liberal spraying with WD4o or a dry out with a compressed air line.

could be water on the electrics, or have you got a wire snapped off and this is registered as a fault in the system?
as stated regarding bulbs, check they're not being 'connected' by water/mud etc and stupid as it may seem have you only just noticed the fault with the sidelights and have put the wrong bulbs in at sometime.

The towbar electrics did take a couple of knocks the other day. Once i've pressure washed all the mud off tomorrow, I'll have a good look at it all. I remember the same thing happening on my Toyota Carina (don't laugh) and it also had the bulbs with the double filaments. That car didn't have a towbar and i think the problem was remedied by changing the bulbs.
