In my vehicle when purchased was a Radio/TV/CD Player/Nav Unit unfitted, does anyone have similar or any advice how i can get it coverted to UK and get all the Unit working, what additional items do i need etc!, antennae, wave expanders and other, i have seen similar units on the 2001 surfs on forecourts, even the salesmen cant explain what to do or how to get it modified Typical!

Wiring Diagrams, user handbooks for this Unit may be of assistance or Websites that show it, it is Marked Toyota 16000

The simplest answer is not to fit it. You can get the radio to work by fitting a band expander, however the display will not show the correct frequency, and the reception can be barely acceptable at best, sometimes virtually non-existant unless parked atop your local transmitter.

There are no tuners/expanders available that I'm aware of to make the TV recieve UK stations.
Similarly you cannot get UK software for jap nav systems.

The CD player is about all thats likely to be of any use.

Often people are swayed by the fabulous sound system and TV etc (I thought I was on a winner with a tv in my first surf!) but truthfully, when buying a jap import, its best to budget for a replacement stereo to suit your own requirements, as all too often the units fitted are simply not suited to use in our part of the world.

The experience of most owners here on the forum, had been to ditch the jap system and fit their own.

You can get the TV converted as the main requirement is to convert from NTSC to PAL signal - UK uses PAL i I think.

Costs about 200 notes or there abouts. DVD's will play as long as you get a multi region DVD player that will output NTSC pictures.

With regard to the Radio, even with a band expander you don't get an accurate signal because Japanese stations broadcast on odd decimals and UK on even decimals (95.8 etc). So even with a band expander unless it shifts the decimals too, you will be 1 decimal out and therfore only picking up the station "bleed" rather than the actual signal.

      Cheers

              Hi Bob.
I went down this route earlier on in the year to no avail, the so caled specialist radio/sat nav convertors only offered to replace the system with a uk spec sat nav and radio/cd player. Being in the TV repair/supply buisness I thought I would find someone to convert the system in my 98 model as I know a lot of tech heads. The answer is basicaly, yes it can be done but only at great expence, the man hours involved are astronomical so as is posted throughout this site your best bet is an expander as a temp measure or a new system as and when funds allow.
Just bought a Sony with a multi disc to replace the posh looking but basicly useless peice of kit in my motor. Sorry m8 but untill someone looks at doing conversions as a return post buisness it seems we have no choice but to change the complete unit.
On an up note though, I will let the tech heads I know that the buisness oppertunity doing conversions may be a lucrative earner so you never know. As they say "watch this space"
