low mpg

Im driving a 2.4td hilux j reg and im currently getting about 18 - 20mpg and in todays climate its costing a small fortune to run can anyone give any advice on why its so low. Cheers

coz it's a 2 tonne brick on wheels, with a 17 year old engine that's beginning to tire.

The only suggestions to improve it are a damn good service, block off the EGR, wear lighter boots, switch to road tyres if you're not already on them, pump up to 30-32 PSI, 34 if you don't wanna keep your spine intact for too much longer, remove any unnecesaary roofracks, bull bars etc. or drop a wee bit o veg in the tank every now and then to offset the rising diesel prices a bit, not that veg is that much cheaper any more.
