Hi. Today iZ my third day aZ a 1992 surf owner
Can anyone tell wot the red button iZ 4 just in front of gear selector (autobox)
Also my temp gauge shows very little movement after a twenty mile run. I would expect too see it at the half way mark at least but it's not even getting a quarter of the way. IZ this normal for a 2.4TD SSR-X. fluid levels r OK.

The red button is to enable you to get the gearbox out of park when the engine isn't running (particularly if you need to get the dashboard out for anything.

Temperature gauge sounds a bit low however as long as the level don't seem to change and the heaters work then I wouldn't worry too much. May have some water wetter or DEI radiator releif in the system which does reduce overall temp. You may want to get a new gauge from your local friendly Toyota dealer. Mine goes up to just under half way after about 2 1/2 miles and stays there.

Welcome to the forum just to confirm what Lucky has said, my temp gauge also comes up to just under 1/2 way and stays there.

A word of warning about this lot on ere THEY are all raving nutters! but you could not find a friendlier bunch any where!!

As to your comment about a muddy field, It can be fun on the Tennyson Down, I often go and have a play up there (sensibly of course), so if you fancy that some time PM me and we can sort summat out.

Could be faulty gauge but I don't think so.Check the terminal on the sensor on thermostat housing.If it is dirty or a little coroded there may be a resistance which is not allowing full current to the gauge.If this is ok try another sensor that you know is working to compare readings.
