  • Drivers Door Switch Cluster Ilumination

Took of the drivers door switch cluster today, the one that does the electric windows and mirrors, the reason I took it off was that the switches were not illuminated, stripped down the switch and found there were a lot of burnt contacts, these were cleaned along with the LED's, then all refitted but still no lights on, i find it hard to believe that all the LED's could have blown so its down to a cable or fuse, any idea where the cable goes and is there a fuse, can't seem to see it on any of the wiring diagrams.

Most common fault here is the wires fraying and fatiguing in the door loom at the hinge point. If you've got an earth leak or short here it could cause these problems. If there's no power to the LEDs due to a break in the wire then that's the probable cause. Get a power meter and check out the wires. If the fault is intermittent then it strongly points to this.

Mine does, but it's not exactly what you might call bright. More a subtle hint at a slight glow. I keep meaning to open mine up and give it a clean out. Especially now that I've found the drivers door mirror doesn't move - I suspect a problem at the switches.

If you're going to strip the switch down, then do it with care, there are two contacts per switch which are loose along with 5 springs all will fall out if you don't take it to bits carefully but best of all is the window lock switch, that is a real pain if it falls out, but if you pull the switch top off before you take it all to bits then you will have saved yourself alot of pain, if you do it like this then that switch does not have to be disturbed and the little spring and contacts for the lwindow lock switch stay where they are suposed to, (i didn't do it that way first time)

Replaced all my dim led's with ultra bright ones (still got an intermittant fault on one) but its better than nothing.

                Drivers Door Window Switch

Seem to be having the same problem as many others, but try this one
The switch has been taken apart, cleaned and put back together on my truck
Driver side window still refuses to work unless you remove the door card slacken all nuts and bolt in the door for the window motor and associated components
The window then works untill you tighten everything up and you try to use the switch again, it will go down and then it will come up and then it stops again. Having had the door in bits several times everything is moving freely
                Can someone help?
                Thanks

There's a break in the wire that goes to the drivers window switch, most likely.

Put it all back together and operate the switch while opening and closing the door, the break is probably in the rubber conduit between door and pillar.
