Mainbeam problems....driving me crazy

Hi Folks,
I have a problem and looked through the forums at the problems others have experienced in the past.
This one is different from what I have seen posted.
Basically when I pull the stalk I can flash mainbeam and the main beam blue light on dash come on as suposed to do.

The problem is when the knob is rotated to turn the headlights on, the main beam comes on, but the blue light doesn't. When you then flick to main beam the dipped seems to then come on also.
When I flash the main beam with the switch in the on position the dipped seem to flash.
I have seen from the other posts to check fuses and relays which I have done.
The only thing I have not done is strip and clean the switch on the column.
The question I have is, do you think this will make the slightest difference?

Hi Folks,
Got to the bottom of this.
When imported a fog light looks as though it has been fitted.
The feed for the illuminated switch was scotchlocked in under the dash.
The electricl system seem to be confused by this.
When disconnected all works fine.
Im sure I saw a message re rear fog light so I will go and have a search.
