  • Dead Digar Lighter Socket

A couple of weeks ago my neighbour borrowed my 12V compressor, after the local toe rags let his tyres down and said it did three tyres OK, then stopped working. I tried it on the Surf but it was dead.

Yesterday I tried my new compressor but no joy. I plugged the hands free kit into it and nothing. I double checked with the multimeter and there is no 12V. Simple, I thought, the fuse has blown. Checked the fuse labelled cigar lighter and it is fine but still no volts at the cigar lighter. Is there an additional inline fuse for the ciggy lighter. It looks almost like a complete strip of the dash to get to it.

Had this problem when i first picked up my surf.

Turned out to be the positive feed wire to the lighter has perished and cracked just at the termination point to the rear of the lighter.

Remade the connection and all been working well since

Run a new 17A wire straight from the battery Phil, as the original will be old and brittle. Put the fuse as close to the battery as possible.
