  • Reverse gear bleeper?

Anyone disabled the reverse gear bleeper on the auto box 3rd gens?

I finally got around to stopping the "door open, keys in ignition" bleeper but would also like to get rid of the reverse bleeper too.
    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Pete.

It is just so annoying! beep beep beep beep!
I know it is in reverse I put it there! Don't need a beep to let me know.
It may only be me as I can't even stand all the beeping even the microwave does, One beep would do but no it has to beep 5 times.
Needles to say I am not in reverse long, and I try and be out of the kitchen if the microwave is in use.
I have never had a car before that beeped in reverse and they never seemed to need it.

Thats good! I am glad I got that off my chest

I have stoped my reverse beeber on my Mk2, I dont know if it is the same on a Mk3?
I did it the by taking out the speedo cluster, it meant taking out bits of the dash.
Screwed on to the back of the cluster is the beeber just unscrew it.
I had to get rid of mine because I fitted reversing sensors.
I had more beebing going on than a late night TV programme!!

it may not be a good idea to get rid of that particular "beep"
if the surf is anything like the soarer (which also beeps) then if you close the door with the keys in after a time the doors will lock and without a second key available could cause you all sorts of problems

              Thanks for the help "walkabout"

I found some info on http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/chimes.htm

It is not that clear on the site which wire to cut but I figured it out.
You take off the lower cowling ,(some self tappers and one 10mm bolt.)
Then locate a four wire connector that has 2 white with black stripe wires 1 pink and sorry forget the last one. You will know if you have the right connecter as the bleeps will stop when you disconnect the plug ( make sure you have the door open and the keys in the ignition. Then you need to cut the white/black stripe wire next to the pink, cut with enough left so you can rejoin if you get it wrong.
The explanation on the Aussie site says it measures 12volts when such and such but mine red 12volts whatever I did so not sure what was going on?

              Carefull what you cut!!

              Pete.

                Soramad Hi.

Didn't know that I will have to check that out and see if it does lock but I dought if mine will as it has no alarm or key activated central locking.
I have to manually use the key in the lock to activate the central locking.
Could be a problem on others I guess.
Was going to get a new key with central locking button but was not prepared to pay £164 for one.

                Pete.
