broken ariel

Hi all
how do i get the broken off remaining 4" of plastic ariel liniar gear strip out ?
changed the mast today and it wont go down fully as the old one broke off inside.

I am assuming that it has broken off and you can not see any of it????

I think the only way is to remove the aerial from the wing and to bugger about with it while it is upside down with a coat hanger or something else to get a purchase on it.

If you are really lucky it will fall out but from what I have read it aint that easy.
