4WD has decided to go awol
At 1st I figured it would probably be the solenoid as thats gone before.
This time however seems different .When you push the button for 4WD (manual 2.4) there is a clicking from somewhere behind the speedo ? Sounds like a duff relay What is there behind the dash that could be faulty ?

The relay should click! thats a good sign. Our grey truck its behind the bottem dash part, on top of the tranny tunnel.

On others its near the steering column.

i had a similiar prob and found it to be vacum pipe with a crack in it found two soliniods on o/s inner wing and the vacum pipe leading up to them was cracked so it wouldnt pull the vacum selector in
just a thought cause it sounds similiar
