  • Test procedure for turbo sensors?

Anyone out there know how to test the turbo pressure solenoid(mounted on the air filter housing) or the secondary sensor(blue one mounted onto the EGR assembly) I def have a problem with my turbo but am having trouble tracking it down. My boost light doesn't seem to operate and I'm having doubts that the turbo is kicking in correctly or if it is then perhaps the ECI isnt getting the signal from one of the above components and therefore not adjusting the mixture correctly. If anyone can give me the test process for the above 2 items I'd be eternally grateful!

    Cheers
    Pete

According to the engine manual for the 3.0 you need to be able to apply pressure to the actuator at a set level with a turbocharger pressure gauge (SST).

Sounds like you need to take the SUrf to a specialist M8

    Rich.

          Turbo Test

Does anybody know where I can my turbo tested in Hertfordshire or North London in the UK?

I would like to find out of it is working properly and boosting the correct pressure.

          Thanks

You can get boost gauges for around £15, fitting is easy and you'll be able to monitor it yourself.

Are you having engine/turbo power problems?

You can get the turbo tested/reconditioned/repaired here...

              Turbo test

I have a 1992 2.4TD Landcruiser (LJ70) which has the 2L-T engine and a CT20 turbo. The turbo is leaking from the front where the inlet is and I feel that at times the lag is more exaggerated than others. So I am not sure whether it is good or not and would like some confirmation as to whether it is working correctly. As a result of the oil leaking out the front, I am wanting to fit a turbo kit to this turbo but also want to know whether it worth buying a kit for this turbo as it may be too far gone.

How does the boost guage fit and where? Where can I get one?

              Any info greatly appreciated.

It's natural to have some oil in the pipes between the air filter to turbo. When you
say it's leaking. From where exactly, and in what quantity?

                  Turbo

There seems to be more than just a little coming out of the turbo and the external housing to front of the turbo is covered in black oil. Not comforting! I will try and take a picture tomorrow and then post it here.

Make sure the rubber hose in this pic is pushed on securely at both ends. It's an oil pipe, so if it's loose or perished, oil will leak from it when the engine/turbo is operating.

                      turbo

That sounds promising as I do use a bit of oil although I do not notice excessive smoke coming out the exhaust.

The oil drips off the chassis below the engine and a mechanic had a quick look and said it was coming from the turbo, so it may well be that hose. Will give it a check tomorrow.

The other problem to crop up recently is a hole in my exhaust not far the turbo, will this have any serious effect until I am able to get the exhaust replaced. Won't do any damage etc?

                      Thanks for your advice.

It won't cause any engine damage, but it will make a mess (black sooty mess) and give you a headache when driving. (fumes and noise)

It won't cause a problem. Only things you may notice are slightly less power
and a bit more turbo noise.

Incorrect. It's a pressure hose for the actuator.
