    HELP
I have just got my 4 Runner back after 2 and half years of engine re-build, So yesterday I set to and took out front seats to give the inside a really good clean and hoover. Put everything back and now the Bl**dy thing won't start. I have an inkerling that it might jhave something to do wit the imobiliser. It is a standard Toyota one which activates the central locking, Found a Black box under drivers seat. I guess this has something to do with it. Alarm had not been working for past 2+ years so I might have triggered something when i replaced the alarm battery in the fob. Any ideas how I can deactivate imobiliser. Dash lights come on but and fuel pump activates and can feel a click in Alternator Relay.
    Any thoughts anyone.

Im not certain but I dont think Surfs or 4runners come with immobilisers as standard so I would say its an aftermarket alarm. I dont think the black box under the passenger seat has anything to do with the immobiliser but could be something to do with the central locking . Someone with a bit more knowledge will come along and confirm this or not.

Are you sure its the immobiliser thats stopping it?

The click you're talking about could be the starter solenoid - and given that its not seen much use, your starter contacts could be buggered though I'm not sure starters are such an issue on the petrol engines as they are on the diesels.

An aftermarket immobiliser wont be hard to disable. Trace the wires back to where they intersect the vehicle loom (this will be somewhere above the drivers footwell usually) and reconnect the wires as they were originally where the immobiliser has been cut in. Its easier to do than describe! I did it in around 5 mins on my Surf, and 10 mins on the wifes VW when the immobilisers inevitably failed.

If that doesn't work, check the starter, and possibly the 'park' switch in the gear selector if its an auto.
