Glow plugs

[KERRSURF]

My glow plug indicator on my dash only stays lit for a second or two before I crank the engine.
I very cold weather it stays on a fraction longer.
Is it normal for the plugs to heat so quickly?
The engine starts very quickly after allowing this quick heat.

If I don't heat the plugs it takes a few cranks round to get going.

I'm used to driving diesel plant that takes ages to preheat and I wondered how my Surf manages it so quickly.

The light will only be on for a second anyway.Listen out for the relay click before starting.Mine takes roughly 10secs till the relay clicks and then i start it up.The relay is on the n/s inner wing i think so you will have to listen carefully to hear it as it's rairly quiet
