Should my auto indicator light up?

Hi, i'm just working through a few niggly little snags on my new toy. Should the auto box gear select light up when lights are on? Obviously, i don't want to start looking to fix something if it ain't broke!

yes it should light up.

Turn on lights and give the selector a gentle knock.
for some reason this works for mine.
