The radio on my surf works perfectly as the radio aerial goes up and as it comes down. However when the aerial stops ascending or descending the radio just hisses static.

Any ideas???
Poss could be ariel cable is earthing through chassis when the motor is running it up/down thus groundplanning it out????? Wierd
Kitesurf_phil is probably your man for this - what with all them radios etc
Its worth checking the cable for any breakdown in any way firstly for checking the continuaty against the chassis also check to see if the aerial is tight against the body,or for any cable chaffing. if any of these fail it sounds as though you might have to spend an afternoon cursing to change the aerial.

might be completely wrong, but i think there's some kind of "oojymaflip" in the control box for the aerial.. mine doesn't pick up any signal until it's completely extended and locked in position.... perhaps some kind of cut off switch??

It's the opposite tho Matt. Works when arieal is moving only.. not when its up???
I missed this thread when I looked Thurs' & Fri'.
My radio doesn't pick up a signal until the aerial is fully extended. I think it is because the audio is muted until the the motor has stopped whirring. If it is easy to get to the aerial socket, unplug the fitted aerial and plug in a piece of wire instead. If this picks up a signal, then investigate the aerial connections.
I havent attempted to get at my fitted aerial yet. I was going to because, if I reversed into my garage without switching off the radio, it would scrape the garage door and bend. It got "customised" on the last Pit day and won't extend all the way, so is no longer a problem!!
