  • 1st gen centre console window lock button

It has an orange band around it which you can barely see.

Now, when i push it. Absolutely nothing happens.
It doesnt stay clicked down, it pops straight back up.

Is it busted? What is supposed to happen?

If it's like the 2nd gen switch, it should stay slightly depressed the first time you press it, then return to it's original position with the second press.

It sounds busted, it should get pressed by accident, then you spend hours wondering why your electric windows don't work.

Try a switch cleaner spray or WD40 it may just be dirt in it.

take it apart and take a look inside , its only IIRC 3 small springs and 2 little plastic tabs inside . You'll soon see how it works once it in bits.

                  YAY fixed it!!!

                  well i hope i have.

ive got the whole console in bits giving it a clean
(previous owner for a smoker and left it EVERYWHERE)
stripped the switch down (your right about turning brittle)
gave it a damn good clean. and worked out it was the little spring not quite sitting right.

the clicky bit works now but i wont find out if it actually does anything till ive reassembled it all.

                  cheers for your help guys

vagrant no2. do you have any other parts for the 1st gen 'in stock' ?

when it's locked, all it will do is stop you being able to use the key to wind down the rear window from the outside. that's if it works that is. does nothing to your door windows.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

well i got it all wired back up.

'locking' the window stops the window working from inside the cab.

but it still worked from the tailgate.

seems a bit of a pointless switch really.

                      thanks for your help though.

Not pointless if you've got your hands full of shopping and don't want to have to unlock the drivers door to unlock the rear window.
