Dogey starter cable?

hi all, right got new batteries, new starter and she still clicks. it seems if you disconnect cables and reconnect she will start. has anybody had this or could it be a naff starter, which i need as its my main car and because of roughtracks return policy, cant afford a another new one while i wait to see if its u/s or not. thanks for any help offered.
p.s got an f reg escort loads of mot tax till end of month body rough engine sweet drivers door electric window knackered as part payment towards a fix ta.

It'll be the contacts in the starter that are worn/burnt away. You'll need to remove the starter to replace them, but atleast it's mucho cheaper than a new starter.
