back door warning light

Hi and Happy new year to you all,
my 2.4 surf has just started acting weird, when the tailgate is closed and window up the warning light on the dash (back door) stays on, when I switch the headlights on its goes off and vise versa, has any body got the answer to this one, what I will say is that the warning light is'nt fully iluminated only faint, but it won't go out untill I turn either side or main headlights on.

Have you had a problem putting the rear window up?
Do you get the tailgate interior light, glowing slightly?
If so check for power sepage from both the rear tailgate latches.

If you have a rear mounted spare wheel, make sure it's latched properly.
If you have an under-slung spare wheel, it could be just a bad earth connection in the wiring loom that goes from body to tailgate somewhere.
