Multichanger....

I am in the process of having a nice sony head unit fitted to my surf.. but the guy doing it had called me and said he can't find anywhere suitable to put the multichanger.... I have quite a big 10 disk sony one... It won't fit under the seat, in the glove compartment etc... Where have u guys fitted yours if you have them....?

Most have the smaller changers and fitted them in the rear cubby holes either side of the boot space. Andy (Lucky) fitted a 12 disc changer in there so if your won't fit in there it must be big.
Only other suggestion is fix to the sides of the boot space but then its on full view. Maybe make a box for it to fit in so its not on view?????

Yeah thats the point the on full view bit.... I was thinking of fitting it in the cubby hole.... the garage arn't gonna bother with the changer for the moment, they are just fitting the head unit, the tricky bit ;-)
Lucky / anyone ... is it easy to take that rear panel off to fit it in the cubby hole?

I've got a 12cd Jvc & it wouldn't fit in the boot. After a bit of juggling I got it under the front passenger seat. The space underneath is larger than the gap you can see at the rear of the seat. You need to slide the seat forward & back to get mine in & out.
As I've had it a while it's not worth that much so I tend to leave it in & just remove the head unit.
You can't see it when it's under the seat & anyway the amount of crap my kids leave laid around the back would deter any respectable car thief .

did you have to take the seat out to fit it? u just self tap screws to the floor to secure it?

Cos of the shape of the floor mine fits just perfick without any help. If it slid I'd probably velcro it !

So you didn't even need to take the seat! Thats nice and easy... i like the sound of that.... does the seat still slide back and forth with no problems?
Where have you put the cables...? did you lift the carper?

My cd runs everything from one cable. Just ran it underneath that trim on the edge of the door sill , exits perfect for the seat. Yes the seat still slides.
Easy. You just need to try yours for size ,lot less hassle than any other location.

Cheers for that, but just got the guy to try under the seat, and he said mine is probably the biggest multichanger going.. bigger than the jvc 12 disc and as a result won't fit :-( Back to the drawing board.....

You should be able to run the wire along the floor pan then push them under the panel and feed into the cubby hole.
It easy to take the panel off, you need to take off the trim running across the boot at the back. Also seat belt holders (if fitted) or coat hanger hook and the panel pulls off. Be carefull pulling it off or you will split it.

Oh well.....If you're really stuck,can you take the liner out of the rear pocket & fit it in the cavity,gains you some extra width & depth & the cover is independent so you still have secure access.
I thought about doing this for mine.
You would need to loosen that big side panel,then the tray inside clips out.

Yeah once I got the multichanger in the amp will be next.. but the amps not as thick as the multichanger so that shouldn't be so bad.......

I take it that you have put in amps before then?.........
