  • Engine Check Light

I have two problems but I am not sure if they are connected. When I start up my 2.4 everything is normal, she runs smoothly and the temperature gauge steadily moves towards the centre of the dial. Just before it reaches the centre I hear the air con fan try to kick in a few times then it runs all the time. The temperature gauge reads normal (sitting just before the centre point). After about 40 minutes driving (or sitting in traffic) the engine develops a rattle and the 'check' light comes on. This results in loss of power because the turbo won't kick in. If I stop and turn the engine off for about 10 mins I can run again for about 40 mins.

I have checked the ECU code and it flashes 8 times then it flashes 12 times. Unfortunately I have two different versions of what the codes mean.

They both agree that 8 = Intake Air Temperature Sensor however for 12 they give 'Timer Control Valve (Pump)' or 'Knock Sensor Signal - Open Or Short in Knock Sensor Signal'.

Does anyone know which is the correct one and what can be done to fix it.

    Cheers
    Bob
