  • Mysterious Button

    I've got a 92 2,4TD SSRG with a mystery button.

It's just below the Idle Up button to the right of the steering wheel and has a red light but no apparent function. Does anybody know what it does (or should) do?

I've got a mystery button too but it's not the fog light. It's in the same position under the idle up button, there's one there that is the fog light and another swith - a 3 position switch with the centre position being off and the up position says ON1 and the down position says ON2.

        Any ideas?

Is it a momentary press switch or a proper on off switch with two on positions.

If it's a mom switch, is it for the rear window (maybe a replacement for the standard switch in the centre console. If it's a normal switch, has the Surf got front fogs or spots (or both). Could have been a switch to change over from fogs to spots if they were one of the combined Fog/Spot units.

Or might be a manual electric aerial switch.

Other than that I am stumped.

          Cheers

It's a proper switch with two on positions.

It has got spots on the front, which strangely are on with the headlights dipped as well as on full beam - i thought it might be a switch to change this but it doesn't seem to.
Could be an aeriel switch, i didn't notice it going up and down tho when i switched it, but i haven't got a stereo in at the mo so might mean it won't work.....maybe

Unfortunately i can't try these suggestions out and report back as i'm having a nice new head fitted....joy!

Check to see if the beam pattern changes when you switch the switch. They may be one of those funky twin bulb lamps which are actually driving and fog lamps. Fog lamps will have a wider and flatter pattern than spots.

                  cheers guys
i'll try all that when it gets back from the garage.
And then if that doesn't work i'll take the dash apart and follow the wires to see where they go.
