Following on to adding remote central locking on my truck, I've just added it to the Mrs' Polo. The kit I bought from eBay is

This is a flip key one with no plungers so is more economical for a Surf which already has solenoid plungers in the doors.
It also has the advantage that the open and close relays have both normally open and normally close contacts accessible on the output connector, and the common is assignable. For a Surf it is a simple case of connecting earth to the relay commons and use the normally open contacts to connect to the open and close connections on the Door Control unit. Easy peasy!
The other advantage this unit has over the one I bought for my Surf is two active high outputs to feed a sounder and indicators so you get an audible and visible lock / unlock indication.
The key blanks look just about long enough for a Surf key, but if they aren't, I'm sure longer blanks are available from locksmiths.
