How To - Remote Central Locking

you could say it's a wee bit far. I have managed to get it working (don't ask me how) and tomorrow i will hook it up to the lights. It's great to get so much help and i will put in my subscription this month (I've been saying that for the last six months). Hope you all had a good holiday. i'ts back to work for me after two weeks off and i'm really looking forward to it.

Grrrrr..emote central locking!

Evening all, have just spent a few cold hours outside trying to get my central locking kit to work.
It's one of these....

It seems to be the pretty generic type, with 10 connections (live, earth, boot release, flasher etc etc.)

I've had a good root through all the information I could find on this website (and thanks to all of those who have contributed) and this is where I am so far:
I've connected the continuous live (I used the thick white and red wire to the door controller box - it was a continuous +ve when I checked it with a multimeter), the black, yellow and yellow and black wires are connected to earth. I've also connected the green and blue wires to the yellow and red and white and red wires (the thinner white and red one this time) and here is the problem.....

The door will unlock using the remote, only as long as I've pressed the lock button first (it seems to set the relay in the correct position for the door to be unlocked) and I can hear another relay clicking three times (I'm assuming that's the flashing light relay). The main problem is that the door just wont lock using the remote. I can hear the flashing light relay clicking away (so the signal is obviously getting from the fob to the unit) but the doors just wont lock. I've checked the connections (Scotch-locks) and they all seem to be sound but am just wondering what to check next. I still have the grey and brown wires 'hanging around' and am just wondering if they need connecting to something.
I'd really appreciate any help you can offer, my Surf was broken into a few weeks ago and they knackered the drivers side lock, this means that when I want to unlock the car I have to open the passenger side and clamber across. It's a bit of a pain in the arse and I'd love to get this sorted. Thanks in advance, Simon.

Any chance of you scanning and posting up the supplied circuit diagram? I'll take a look and see if I can spot where it's going wrong.

Central locking

Thanks Apache, I'm going to have a good look at the wiring with a multimeter and check the connections. Hopefully I'll find the problem and get it sorted, otherwise I'll put some pics up. Thanks again, Simon

Photobucket is becoming rather annoying lately, they've stop supplying the video editing option, and a couple of times I have uploaded photos, get the confirmation page but there's nothing there!

Looks like these ones were attached to the forum directly, was quite a long time ago so I suppose a software change or something could have banjaxed some old files?

My replacement kit only gives out a positive open and another for shut signal, so I have made up a relay box that used both of these to trigger the door lock switch as it is a 3 wire toggle jobby, going in nect week.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but just got my remote central locking fitted this morning. Took about an hour following these instructions. Didn't need the relays tho as mine had a diagram for a negative switch which made things easier.
The kit I got was one of these

Only problem was the blank key they supplied for the fob was slightly different to the original, but I've managed to trim down my spare key to fit.

I glued my spare key into the hinge too but it didn't last long before the hinge broke clean off.

Are these instructions applicable to a 3rd Gen too?
