Can anybody help with an infuriating intermittant problem? I have owned a 96 Kzn185 for the last three years, which up till now has been faultless. Suddenly, the speedo went dead. At the same time, the compass and 'rolling road' in the overhead console froze. After a while it all started working again. Then it did it again! And Again!! Occasionally the 'o/d off' light will also flash, though the o/d still works as normal. Crawling underneath, I can see that the drive is electrical (I assume it is the plug at the rear output shaft), but I need to know if there is any test I can do, or is there any item that I should test, or must I resign myself to throwing money at it, replacing various units until I strike it lucky (or worse, pay someone else to do it)? In short, HEEEELP!!!

may not be related but i had a similar problem on a range rover and it turned out to be the alternator that was on its way out..sounds crazy i know because i was convinced it was a wiring problem at the time..anyway hope you get it sorted mate.

      re speedo

Try taking the instrument cluster out and make sure that the screws that hold the speedo in the cluster are tight as they are electric connections.
This happened to me a while ago with an import that the speedo had been converted and someone had not tightened the contacts securely and the speedo worked intermittently until i found problem. Hope this helps.
