what stereo can i fit in the large gaping hole in the dash

Hi,

I've ventually decided to give up on theband expander nonsense and fit a proper stereo. Does anyone know any makes/models that will fit the same sort of size gap. its twice the size of a normal stereo.

I currently have and Addzest 5455 for the knowledgable about these things.

You can get either a Double DIN size Stereo (there are a few available) or do like most people and fit a single DIN size one at the top and a cubby box underneath hat are available from Halfords and fit to the standard brackets.

I also need to fit a single din cd player and am wondering how the heck to rig it all up.

I also decided to wait and see if the Christmas sales throw up a bargain somewhere.

I am assuming that the single din units bolt straight in, but if anyone knows better, or the solutions, then a post would be good!!

Yep, used the existing brackets and the little screw holes on the side of the radio, dont use long screws. One side didn't line up so i soldered it in place. Then a universal pocket fitted underneath that, job done nice and tidy.

Have to say the universal Din Pocket from Halfords worked a treat. Would receommend it to others.

Regards the stereos, how about checking out Ebay, i've just picked up a reasoanble bargain on there.

I had a 10yr old phillips cassette/radio with all the graphic equalizers and all and I wanted to stick it in but there were no holes for the Toyota brackets so I drilled some in there, screwed up the brackets, bolted the lot to the frame and happy days (drilled into something on one of the holes but no probs so far ). Also a good idea to rewire your front and rear speakers while your at it, its fairly easy, I dont even have rear speakers but when I do theres a decent bit of speaker cable waiting for them behind the rear wheel arches.

asked for a universal din pocket in halfords today and they didn't know about them. do you have a part number.

dont know the part number but i got mine from halfords, its just a universal pocket and has a fitting kit which makes it go straight in the surf

Halfords have confused me!!

Just been down to Halfords, got a nice JVC cd/tuner for £75, and a connector lead for £12 (part no PC2-17-4 is what you need). I tested it all sat in the car park, just plugged in the lead, connected the ariel, it all lit up, the electric ariel activated, and I had music in seconds. Woohoo!

I asked if they had a cubby hole for the bottom of the hole and the guy didn't have a clue. Does anyone know the part number for the universal cubby hole. I did see one marked 'Universal' would this be the one??

As for fitting it all, do I have to remove the lower part of the dash?

All advice gratefully received.

yes the universal one is what i fitted, as in picture, the bottom part of the dash does have to come out to fit the radio

Help - Dash removal

I have searched high and low around my dash, but I cannot remove the stereo surround.

Can anyone tell me the correct procedure. I have removed:

The lower piece surrounding the ashtray
A screw by the glovebox hinge
A screw to the left of the steering column.
The two push clips each side of the central column.

I am now mystified!! Help!!

How did you refit the main central dashboard section?? I followed the instructions in the above link but it cant all be put back together without removing the glovebox and that takes all of 5 minutes.
