Thats the alarm I had fitted to my surf when I bought it in Dec 2003. It cost me £300 to buy and have it professionally fitted by an authorized TOAD dealer.

    HTH...Darren

To get reduced insurance premiums the alarm has to be professionaly fitted with a certificate.

Dont buy it as you will find it very hard to get fitted just in case it's faulty even new alarms can be faulty or go faulty the fitter will give you no warrenty at all, it will just be as cheep to get one supplied and fitted with a full warrenty as most of the price is in the installation anyway.

I think I'm right in saying that insurance approved insallers have a serial number to be entered on the certificate

Must get this avatar sorted out!

Thats what I was told by my insurance....The installer had to be approved as the alarm system is a CAT 1 and I had to provide the installation certificate which had to have the installers authentic code and signature.

                      A spanner in the works?????

I don't want to upset everyone. But didn't toad go bust last year??

I had a toad imob. fitted a few years ago and saw something in the papers about toad systems not meeting the required standards hence the closure. I would def check with you insurence compainies first. wouldn't want to spend all the money for them to turn around and cancel the policy..... I called my insurer to check and they said it is NOT mandatory for imports to now have security devices fitted as their are so many now! - (interesting) does anyone else have any info?????

                        toad!!

nope they have not gone bust you can buy new toad alarms at the following link and have them fitted.

                        http://www.toadcaralarms.co.uk/html/toad.html

i have the Toad Ai606 fitted to my surf, which was on it when i bought it. its the mutts nuts, turns the interior lights on when you press for open, if the surfs open and you dont start the motor after 1 min it switches the immobiliser on to the engine only, etc etc highly recommended.

                        nick

p.s have not got a cert for it and insurance company wants one!!! any ideas in how to get the damn alarm verified??

Of course you can still buy the items new because their are thousands of units stocked in store all over the UK that people are flogging out cheeply! The problem is, you can't get them certified by independant agents because they dont meet the requirements for the 2005 tests which is why toad stoped selling them and certifiers wont guarentee them.

I see the link you have inserted is also not Toad direct.

I do alot of mains wiring and inspection and testing for house/industrial properties. If the new items don't meet the new regulations I can fail the D.I.Y installations and impose large fines backed by local councils.

Not that I work with car alarms their selfs; I'd look for a different make so you can get a BS registered installation certificate else you may be entering dark waters........................ ...

Just had mine fitted by local firm because insurance co ( churchill ) insisted. Toad was one of the few they accepted. You are right, it really is the dogs.

no TOAD have not gone bust

they have changed names and called themselves TG21 follow the link and you can certainly have them certified no problem. some insurance companies have not kept upto date and changed their details for TOAD, so they search for TOAD and they find nothing, search for TG21 and hey presto!!!!!

                              http://www.tg21plc.com

                              hope this helps
