  • Spotlight wiring problem/ locating sidelight circuit?

Finally plucked up the courage to wire in my spotlights and everything was going fine until I had to connect a wire to the sidelight circuit as per instuctions. My problem is.... where is the sidelight circuit and how do I find it?

Can anybody point me in the right direction? All I have at the moment is a load of dangling wires until I sort this out.

Thanks in advance for any help.

where are you wanting a wire inside the engine or the interior?

Hi, I've got to do the same as soon as the bits arrive, According to
medieval Dave there are several points to tap into under the dash, The wire that goes to all the dash lights (green i think), Also on mine there is a connector just behind the drivers side battery that is side lights, That one is
a red and a black, It used to be connected to my old fog lights which came on
with the side lights, Retested it today (with a test light) as its going to be my
supply for relays and angel eyes, Run through a low rate fuse 2amp or so,
        Good luck Ian

How did you remove the sidelight unit?

2 screws on the side of the lens, then slide it out.

I did try that but couldn`t slide it out? Perhaps a bit of welly will persuade it then?

take a hammer to it! No not really
give it a bit of a jiggle about....i cant remember if it slides sideways or towards the front of the truck but it does just slide out once the screws are removed.

How do I know which is the live wire? I assume it will be red? Or is that house electrics? I`m a doughnut when it comes to car electric.

i put a circuit tester thing on it with the side lights on to test which one was live. please note,i'm not an electrician but i do most of my own stuff and it usually works!
Medievil Dave is probably screaming at his pc saying NOOO!!!! DONT DO THAT!

Use a test light, If yer got one, If not you can make one out of an old
bulb holder and two bits of wire, or buy one from halfrauds (couple of quid)
Its lile a screwdrive with a light in and a wire with a crockadile clip on the end
Stick the clip on an earth or batt - touch the other end on a wire and get someone to switch the side lights on, Sorted

Yep, sounds right to me. Just get a test lamp, put the crock clip on the battery earth or on bare chassis metal such as a bolt head, and stuff the other end of the tester into the back of connectors until you find one which is live when the lights are on and not when they are not.

I believe that on a 2nd gen it will be green under the dash and green with a blue stripe under the bonnet, but some trucks have totaly different colours for no apparent reason.
