I have a set of Pioneer 600watt 6x9 three way speakers i am taking out my RS to put in the surf at the rear. I have already fitted the Pioneer head unit but i am a little worried i may come across a few problems when fitting the speakers. Would it be ok to just wire these into the exhisting wiring implace of the old speakers or is it worth just running some new cables and having them on their own. But then i have read on that the lekki ariel wont work cause it grounds through the rear speakers ?

If i wire them on the exhisting cables. I am worried some damage may occur to the head unit with there being two tweeters in the back on the roof . Or wont that make any differance to the Ohms ? Will it be ok ?

    Cheers anyone

    Hi m8ty.
it depends on the ohmage of your head unit requires and the ohmage of the speakers.
To be able to match them.
I would run seperate wires myself for pease of mind,as for the areial i would thought that this was earthed via the metal of
the wing its mounted to? could be wrong?
    Cheers Chris

Unless you have already fitted them, the tweeters in the roof are empty grilles - although the wiring is there - it is fed up from the stock powered rear speakers.

Cheers Guys. I might not be doing it for a while now as the speakers i have wont fit in without cutting some of the inner bodywork away. (Dont really want to do that). As for the ariel. It must be earthed through the rear speakers somewhere because when i wired it all up. The rear speakers wouldnt work till i hooked up the ariel, Or other way round. Cant remember.

          rear speakers

Had some amps and 6X9 speakers left over from my last car and decided that instead of them kicking about in the shed I would look for somewhere to fit them in the Surf.
Anyway after removing the complete rear side panel I decided that it was not feasible to fit them in place of the existing ones as it looked as if I would have to remove all the original speaker, amp and sounder box and then start cutting out the bodywork not something I fancied doing.
As I also had a 10" sub already built into a proper box I looked at extending it without changing the internal dimensions and after a trip to B&Q and a carpet shop this is what I finished up with.
It's fully removeable by just unplugging it and I finished up with some extra storage space under each 6X9.

nice! i've nwvwer seen the point of these huge base boxes that mean you can get anything else in your car, so that is a very good plan. i may copy it...
