  • Heater Fan Problem

Hi guys, Iv'e just encountered a problem with my heater/fan inside my surf,Everytime I turn on the heater to warm I get a strange smell of antifreeze or something similar, also all my windows get steamed up within seconds and they smell and feel oily, but thats not all, just behind the glove compartment there's clear oily water !!!!ing from it and the carpet is soaking wet,I have checked the water temp whilst Im driving and it just stays between half which is normal, could it be the heater matrix or blocked heater pipe...? Has anyone had a similar problem and could please help me, If it is the heater matrix where can I buy a new or second hand one and how much for a gen 3 and how easy is it to replace.Cheers Andy..

Yes it sounds like the MATRIX but check your hoses where they go into the the bulkhead first as they maybe split.

          heater fAN PROBLEM

Hi Dirtydog,The pipes are roughly in the middle of the bulkhead towards the passenger side of the surf, Ive looked at the pipes which Marky mentioned from under the bonnet incase they had split but all seems well,Ive taken out the stereo and most of the dashboard but cannot find the matrix because there are so much covers and sheilds in the way of view, can anybody tell me if I need to remove the complete dashboard to get at it or is there an easier way and if I do need to remove the complete dash what about the passenger side airbag will this cause any problems. just thought i'd mention it aswel, ive removed the pipes from under the bonnet which connect to the bulkhead and bypassed the pipes with a copper pipe and some jubilee clips so that the water still rotates through the pipes to the cooling system and stops the water leak inside the car for now untill I can remove the problem but now I dont have any heating, has anyone got any pics how to to remove the matrix on a gen 3 .Andy
