  • Rear window and rear wiper not working!!!!!

Hi guys. I'm having trouble again with my rear window. This time, it won't open or close from either the key switch or the interior switch. The rear wiper also does not work although the heated rear window and the rear washer do. The window lock button is definately off, the rear wiper is definately parked correctly as well. The window worked fine yesterday as I had loaded stuff through it and it wound up with the key switch from outside with no problem. I've taken the interior wiper trim off and the interior carpeted tailgate panel (both by climbing into the boot from the rear doors), but am lost as to what to do next.
    Any help would be great.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I've checked all the fuses (the ones under the bonnet and the ones in the driver's kick panel) and they are all ok. Is there another fuse for the window and wiper?
      Any more suggestions??

Ensure wiper is parked properly as the rear window wont work. There is a switch that detects when wiper is parked. TRY IT !

Thanks Marky. Where is this switch, I've had a look all round the wiper motor and followed the wires but cannot see a 'switch'. Is it a microswitch like those in the tailgate? If this switch was faulty, would just the window not work?? My wiper does not work at all although the washer does.

The window should work if the wiper is not parked! when either window switch is activated it should park the wiper then open the window automatically!!! the control panel is hidden in the rear luggage area, its a B*****d to get at!! you have to remove the near side rear panel and the control module is in there! (not likely to be faulty though unless you have water ingress!) check the harness going to the tailgate, mine has had TWO breaks in the wiring where it flexes giving similar problems HAVE FUN

My window would not go down due to wiper not parked. When you turn the key in the rear lock you should hear a relay click.

NOt only should the relay click BUT the wiper should go to park and the window then comes down!

There is no 'clicking' sounds at all when I operate either switch!! I'm at work today but will try to get time to at least get the window down and tailgate open to see whats going on in there.
Thanks for help Ms Bitch and Marky

If you get in the back of the car you can unplug the window motor and put 12v directly to it! one way will take the window up the opposite polarity will take it down then you can open the tailgate. If the window does not move with 12v on it either polarity the motors gone!

I've now finished getting it working again. What I've found is that where the control unit is in the n/s quarter panel, there is a large loom with a connector which takes the wiring to the tailgate. On moving this around the control unit began to click and all items started working again. I traced the fault to a chafed wire where the loom exits the rear quarter. It's a real pig to get to but maybe a common area of failure???
Thanks again to all that posted replies.

Thank god I remembered seeing this Mark...tried opening the rear window today down at the stables and nada...not opening via the switch inside and not opening with the key.....checked the fuses by swapping over the indicator fuse with the tailgate fuse....luckily with raining today put the rear wiper on and once home switched the wiper off, and it must have parked itself properly.....

The result...window operates from Key and Switch......thought there was going to be a lot of work/messing about needed...phew!!!!
