  • V8 engine and Box.

    Hi

Quick question, been having a look through stickys at engine conversions.
So far I've gathered you use the V8 and auto from lexus, when completed is the Surf still available as 4WD.
Does the transfer box bolt onto the back of the Lexus box?

If the car is stock height the new engine sump needs a little cut and shut.

Does all the harness and ECU's etc have to be transferred, or can some of the Surf stay?

I have seen the list of parts and I am starting to look at prices etc.

    Thanks
    Andy

If you have a non VVTi donor car, you can use the Lexus gearbox and retain 4x4. (this is a MUCH easier conversion, going for the VVTi has caused me all sorts of headaches I'd not have had to face otherwise).

I have read that you really need a 2" bodylift (or at least 1.5") to make it all fit, but there seems to be some confusion between 3rd and 2nd gen data.

I am currently doing this conversion with my third gen, I opted for a 2" body lift, I'll let you know how much room is left over afterwards. It certainly makes life easier!

The only modification I might do to my sump is graft the diesel bit where it drops down between the crossmember/front diff to give me:
    -better drain plug access
-less chance of oil starvation at steep angles.
    More Lift.
    More Tyres.
    More Engine.

You can only see the good stuff if you buy a blue star though.
