  • Torque converters????

    Hey guys,
I've split the gearboxes from their engines on my KZN185/1UZ-FE swap ready to swap their output shafts. But before I began stripping them both down, I thought I'd ask a local auto transmission specialist his advice.
He said it would be simpler to just keep the Surfs gearbox but make sure the Lexus torque converter is used.

Is he right or did he misunderstand what I'm doing?

I don't have any experience with gearboxes so the simplest route would be preffered!!!!
    Cheers,
    Sean

The Surf's transmission won't 'comunicate' properly with the Lexus ECU.

Remove the transfer box and adapter from the Surf's transmission, measure the output shaft and cut the Lexus transmission's shaft to the same length.

So I've completely misunderstood this myself, I thought the surfs ouput shaft was longer and had to be fitted to the Lexus box. But it's the Lexus shaft that needs trimming down to size!

Boy, am I glad I asked on here!
        Cheers,
        Sean

Is that your Surf in the avatar?

Post up some pics to we get a look at it.

I thought it was a Renault 5 GT Turbo first glance
