    3rd gen engine transplant

Well after lots of pondering and mesuring i have made my mind up

I am off work in a few week's time so i am going to try and fit the suzuki 2.7 v6 and gearbox i will have to remove the add system and lock the diff but that's not a problem apart from that it should slot in with out to much fuss

I am just a bit worried about the wiring but i should be ok!!!! the last car i changed engine's on was a ford 2.0 zetec in to a triumph herald

I will take some photos along the way if anybody is intrested and a log of how i get on.

At least i can hide in the garage!!

Is that the 2000 on Grand Vitara engine?

      How much do they cost?

It is the all alloy 2.7 v6 dohc 24v (190ish bhp)form a 2003 reading 49k i have had it running and oil psi is ok

It's a heavy rear end shunt i paid £795 for the whole lot compleat engine, box, transfer, rad, wiring & ecu and anything else i might need from it

I am hoping it should be quite a easy job as it is a very compact engine and i should have pleanty of room to move it about and hopefully use the surf's mounting points without to much agro

How do the diff ratios compare to your Surf axles?

I have no idea as to the ratio's but all i can say is the diff's are both the same size with the same amount of teeth and the wheels are also the same

At the end of the day, you're never going to find 240+bhp from a 2.8 Isuzu lump. It's nice when it gives full boost at about 1600rpm though-and when I was doing 18mpg in the 2.8 Mu trying to keep up towing an identical boat, he was making 32mpg,doing nearly 1000rpm less and only came out of top once between Exeter and Redruth.
It will be the torque you are feeling at 1600rpm. Whether or not this is better than the V8 I do not know!

                Well it's in

Progress so far on my engine transplant
                (photos will follow)

The suzuki v6 is in place so easy just needed a slight mod with the angle grinder to the suzuki engine mounts and it slotted in .I have had no need to lift the truck or move things about . I still have to sort the rad will try and fit the suzuki one as pipes are the other way round

The transmition tunnel need a slight mod with my club hammer to fit the gear/transfer box apart from that all the gear selectors fitted no prob . i will have to mod the gearbox mount as the bolt holes are an inch futher apart

                Problems so far
The rear propshaft have had to fit the suzuki gearbox spline end on to the surf's prop at the uj no real prob but the prop is about 10/12mm to short . It is fitted but is not pushed as far in the gearbox as i would like. I might look in to having a spacer made up for to axle end of the prop.

The transfer box was a bit close to the transmation tunnel for my liking so a few clumps with the club hammer and that was sorted

                The exhaust
I am hoping i can fit the suzuki front & surf rear together

                Wiring
Only have the WIRING to sort but as i am fitting the suzuki ecu's and looms Hopefully i should be ok!!! If not anybody in sussex who can help if needed!!

                Will update as and when

                  It's running

Well i am nearly finished just got the exhaust to sort but i have finaly got the truck runing wiring was a bit of a pig but got it sussed in the end took it out for a blast on the A259 eastdean road today (3 feet of exhaust pipe fitted) scared the crap out of a z4 bmw driver!!

It's a lot better on the road around bend's because the lump weigh's half as much and sit's futher back about 12" from the radiator i assume

It may not have the grunt of the lexsurf but if anybody know's the A259 eastdean hill i stuck with my brothers v8 discovery no prob's
